Pre-Primary |
This class is structured to introduce movement from a creative point of view to three and four year olds. Students are taught warm-up, stretching, and strengthening exercises through imagery. This class encourages the development of gross motor skills. Pre-primary ballet is designed to gently teach this young age structure play through using their imagination to explore movement. We also sing along to the exercises, which the children love. May add Tap for an extra fee. |
| Primary | This class is for five to six year olds. Students in this level are encouraged to further develop their gross motor skills through galloping, skipping, leaping, and marching. A series of exercises are introduced at this level to help students develop a sense of rhythm and coordination. Children are allowed to explore movement through free dance using scarves. May add Tap for an extra fee. |
| Pre-Trainee | Students are placed in this class by instructor permission only. |
| Trainee I | The student must be seven years old to enter this level. Here we teach the basic ballet steps beginning at the barre, and continuing to center floor work. Students are also taught to move from the diagonal. Students usually stay at this level for two years. May add Tap for an extra fee. |
| Trainee II & III | Students must be 8-10 years old with one year ballet training to continue at this level. To further advance their ballet technique students are required to take two ballet technique classes per week. The student will now become familiar with basic ballet terminology. Students usually stay at the level one to two years. May add Tap for an extra fee. |
| Trainee IV | 2 years ballet required. Students are required to take 3 ballet technique classes plus 1 pre-pointe classes a week to continue at this level. The student will continue to become familiar with basic ballet terminology. Students usually stay at this level for two years. Tap classes may be added for an extra fee. |
| Trainee V | At this level the student continues to advance their ballet vocabulary and technique. Students must be 12 years or older with 3 to 4 years ballet training and is by placement only. Students must be enrolled in 3 ballet technique classes plus 2 pointe class a week to continue at this level. |
| Trainee VI | At this level the student continues to advance their ballet vocabulary and technique. Students must be 12 years or older with 3 to 4 years ballet training and is by placement only. Students must be enrolled in 3 ballet technique classes plus 3 pointe class a week to continue at this level. |
| Pointe | Students become eligible to dance en pointe after they have completed Level IV. Students are put on pointe between the ages of ten and twelve, depending on the strength of their technique. At this level, students should take a technique class 3 times per week. |
| Modern | Modern is a free form technique that uses distortions, contractions, and impulses. It is not as restrictive as classical ballet which allows the dancer to express movement more openly through emotion and inner feelings. Note: Modern is not being taught this year. |
| Adult & Teen | Open division for adults and teens who wish to continue their dance training as well as for new students wishing to learn basic dance technique. |
